With holiday season around the corner we wanted to celebrate summer for those that perhaps can’t afford to head off to sunnier climes this year.
Alongside a survey revealing that nine in ten Brits use their smartphone to take photos of their travels, we worked with Three to reveal the top places in the UK to trick your friends into thinking you’re actually abroad. Clever huh?
Such holiday fake spots included North Welsh Italianate village Portmeirion (doubling for Amalfi), Camel Valley vineyards (aping the Loire Valley) and St. Michael’s Mount, Cornwall (UK counterpart to France’s Mont St. Michel).
The story was created to launch Three’s new tariff – Essential Plans – a no frills tariff that gives customers the freedom to select a plan that offers all the basics they need, without having to pay for the stuff they don’t. Alongside the Holiday Fake Spots story we released a simple press release to the tech press about the launch.
The news was a big hit for Three, generating coverage in the likes of the Metro, Daily Star, Mail Online, Express Online and tech titles like T3, uSwitch, Trusted Reviews and Money Saving Expert and many more.
