Christmas24

Merry Woofmas

This October, to celebrate the launch of Christmas 24 (the original TV channel dedicated to Christmas movies) we created the first Christmas movie especially for dogs. If that wasn’t exciting enough, the canine flick was narrated by X Factor’s finest, Louis Walsh himself!

Why a film for dogs, you may ask? Well, Christmas 24 is a channel that shows movies for the whole family. But before now, one member of the family had been left out: the dog. Not any more! Now there’s televisual entertainment for every member of the family, including those on four legs.

We worked with Dr Candy d’SA and Dr Robert White-Adams to produce a comprehensive report to reveal the on-screen sound, movement and colour stimuli that gets a positive response from dogs. We used the findings from this report to create a script and treatment for our film entitled ‘Merry Woofmas’, where Pyrenean Sheepdog Holly hopes for one present and one present only under the Christmas tree: a big juice bone!

The film was created entirely in a dog’s colour spectrum of blues and yellows, included slow moving imagery and short scenes that cater to a dog’s limited attention span. Louis Walsh’s voice changes in speed, pitch and cadence during the film, with specific words incorporated into the script that many dogs are familiar with to trigger positive reactions from our doggy viewers.

We also cast Instagram stars Ramsey the Staffy (191K followers), Marcel Le Corgi (60.9K followers) and Mika the Husky (65.6K followers) in the film, playing Holly’s friends.

The media went barking mad for the story with over 80 pieces of coverage. Highlights included an amazing 4-minute piece on Good Morning Britain (just don’t mention the dog being dropped by Richard Arnold) and national hits with The Mirror (print and online), a tasty full-page treat in the Sunday Mirror, Metro, The Sun and The Express. We also bagged a Santa sack-full of regionals and consumer coverage in the likes of New! magazine, Yours Online, Radio Times, PopBitch, Yahoo and even The Beano!
