Children’s imaginations were able to take full flight with the announcement that Heathrow was becoming the world’s first ‘imaginary friend friendly’ airport.
Our idea to extend a warm welcome to youngsters’ invisible friends was designed to creatively champion Heathrow’s credentials as a family friendly airport and promote the many family services the airport offers during the summer holidays – from free children’s travel on the Heathrow Express to free kids meals in terminal restaurants.
To bring the idea to life we worked with Hollywood star, and the man behind imaginary friend comedy Moone Boy, Chris O’Dowd.
O’Dowd lent his distinctive voice to a fun and light-hearted corporate training video showing Heathrow staff how to extend its award-winning passenger service to children with imaginary friends. The content was filmed at the airport featuring real staff members.
The newsworthy content was distributed to earned media and across social media with the announcement that Heathrow was now welcoming all invisible playmates to the airport. And media coverage for the story was far from imaginary, with cracking write ups in the Independent, Metro, Mail Online, Mirror online, Conde Nast and Huffington Post, not to mention several lovely pieces in parenting and travel press.
