According to the New Yorker, the idea for radiooooo was born when one Benjamin Moreau was driving a 60s Renault in the south of France. Sounds idyllic right? (I mean that’s probably where all good ideas come from.) Turning on the car’s vintage radio, he was blasted with ‘a wave of awful commercial music’, ‘instantly bursting the time-bubble we were so happily swimming in.’ This led to an idea about the organisation of artists and songs based on time and space rather than by genre or complex algorithms.
If that sounds a little far-fetched, wait till you try it. A hand-drawn map forms the basis of the site, and all you have to do is select a decade, a country and a mood (slow, fast or weird – highly recommended) to get things started.
Absolutely bloody brilliant. (Their Instagram account is also a thing of beauty for any vintage vinyl fans out there…)
