Celebrating Elspeth Beard – and pioneers everywhere

With International Women’s Day recently passed, we thought this video was particularly appropriate.

Back in 1982, Elspeth Beard set off on a round-the-world trip on her BMW R60/6, becoming the first Englishwoman to travel across the world on a motorcycle. 1982 was a very different time of course, without conveniences like GPS or mobile phones. Just seeing a woman on a large bike was pretty unusual; never mind crossing the entire earth on one. On her return, Elspeth set to work on restoring and renovating an abandoned water tower, picking up several architectural awards on its completion. How’s that for inspiration?

No doubt, Elspeth Beard is one of the coolest people on the planet and WE LOVE HER.
