Minister reacts to our Olymp-sicks story. And we say ‘Knickers!’

Posted on 29 June, 2012

It’s not often a senior politician has to respond to the findings of a PR story, but Hugh Robertson, Minister for the Olympics did to our latest Littlewoods research as reported in The Daily Telegraph.

To highlight how Brits are prepping for the Olympics with new TVs, surround sound and sofas for Littlewoods Home we predicted the ‘Olymp-sicks’ – and found that 4.8 million Brits plan to ‘pull a sickie’ to watch The Games this summer – with nearly a quarter of a million men2 (8%) set to skip work just to watch the women’s beach volleyball. No wonder Hugh wasn’t happy. Also seen in The Evening Standard, Daily Mail and The Daily Star.

Lets draw a line under that with drawers! This week we also issued created lots of chat with Littlewoods lingerie sales stats which have spiked coninicding with the Euro 2012 tournament. We saluted those ‘Football widows’ who fought back to show their men there was more to the basque region than players from Atheltic Bilbao – with pickup in The Sun and The Daily Mirror print and online versions, The Birmingham Mail and plenty of sports and women’s lifestyle sites.
