Dog Day Afternoon: PupAid 2012

Posted on 10 September, 2012

Several thousand dog lovers and hundreds of dogs all shapes and sizes turned out on a glorious summer day in Primrose Hill to support PupAid 2012 on Saturday. They were joined atBritain’s coolest dog show by the likes of Meg Mathews (Patron), Ricky Gervais, Liam Gallagher, Nicole Appleton, Sarah Harding, Brian May, Joanna Page, Henry Holland, Peter Egan and Debbie from TOWIE. The awareness raising event against puppy farming is the brainchild of vet Marc Abraham and we were only more than happy to do some pro-bono PR work to drive footfall and public interest.

Cow even got to create and judge our own category: dog that looked most like a celebrity. While Tina Turner and Ron Weasley came close, the winner was an Australian Shepherd called Roxy with one blue eye and one brown eye…just like David Bowie. No brainer, especially as our own Mark P had the final say.

Just as celebrities are driving the demand for ‘designer dogs’ given as gifts or adorned as fashion accessories, celebrities are lending their time to reveal the back story to where these expensive dogs actually come from: battery style farms where caged breeding bitches and pups are subject to disease, death and appalling conditions. We’ve already seen great pieces in the Evening Standard and Mail Online with more to follow.

If you want to buy a pup that hasn’t been farmed NEVER buy from a pet shop or an advertisement. Go to a rescue centre or from a reputable breeder and insist to see the mum. For more information on puppy farming and how you can help visit the PupAid site. For more pics from the day visit our Facebook page (and give us a like!).
