Ambers is the toast of the Ascot hat brigade…

Mass brawls aside, we all know what to expect when Royal Ascot comes around: glamour, royalty, celebrities and of course big, big hats. But this year, to celebrate Royal Ascot’s 300th anniversary, Cow did something that hadn’t been done by anyone before. We made a Ladies’ Day hat… for a horse.

And not just any horse. A fine filly, in fact, owned by Fox’s Biscuits and named in honour of the biscuit manufacturer’s newest range, Fox’s Ambers.

To create the first filly fascinator we enlisted the services of Royal Ascot’s official milliner, Stephen Jones OBE (whose clients are a who’s who of the world’s most famous heads, including royalty, Madonna, Johnny Depp, Kylie and Kate Moss amongst others).

The end product was the epitome of equine elegance: a colourful and flamboyant hat inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s hat in the film My Fair Lady.

With a horse, hat, milliner and Cow PR’s very own racegoer Elizabeth Beswick in place, we trotted off to Ascot to film and photograph the unique piece of horse couture. Take a gander at the at Ambers giving her best pose to camera.

We broke the story to the media on the day before Ladies’ Day and generated some brilliant coverage which included the Mail Online, Telegraph online, Vogue, Heat as well as BBC.co.uk, Metro, Stylist, Sky Sports News, Zoo and a three minute piece on Sky News featuring footage of the hat and a live interview with Stephen Jones. Hats off to her!
