Cow opens its doors to the talent of tomorrow!

Over the past two weeks the Cows have welcomed a new friendly face into the team in the form of work experience student Jack Seymour, and he’s here to tell us all about how he found being a member of the herd.

So, who are you Jack?

My name is Jack Seymour, I’m 16 years old and you can usually find me at Emanuel School in South London, but for the past two weeks I’ve been learning about the world of PR at Cow.

Why did you choose to do your work experience at a PR agency?

PR jumped out at me as an industry I wanted to gain some experience in as one of my favourite subjects at school is English and I’m a huge fan of writing. From looking at the website I could tell that Cow had a range of cool clients that I was familiar with, such as Santander and David Lloyd Clubs, and so it seemed a good fit for me to approach them for work experience. I was delighted to be offered a two-week placement and couldn’t wait to get started.

What have you been up to over the past two weeks?

During my two weeks at Cow I was given the chance to take on a variety of interesting tasks that helped me get to grips with what it means to work in the PR industry, from getting involved in scanning daily newspapers to helping out with interviewing huge bands The Struts and You Me At Six for a music event, no two days were ever the same. I constantly felt like I was valued as a team member and played an important role in the day-to-day running of accounts that the rest of the team really appreciated. I thought I would be making cups of tea for two weeks!

What have you enjoyed the most?

While I have quite a few interesting tasks that come to mind, my favourite day was when I was given the opportunity to attend a photo shoot for Jose Cuervo tequila in Café Pacifico, a bar in Covent Garden. The team were setting up a shoot for a new flavour of a margarita and although I didn’t get to try it (roll on the next two years!), it was really interesting to see how everyone worked together to create the images.

What are some of the key things you have learnt during your time at Cow?

I now know how to spot a PR story in the media compared to a news story, and have learnt some great practical skills like how to use the Gorkana database.

Would you now consider a job in PR?

Spending two weeks at Cow has definitely encouraged me to pursue a career in PR or a similar industry. I have found my time here really inspiring, loved the team and can’t wait to see where the skills I learnt could take me in future.
